Course Information
Description	Introduction to the basic elements of music theory for non-music majors: scales, intervals, keys, triads, elementary ear training, keyboard harmony, notation, meter, and rhythm which promotes the appreciation of cultural expressions. (Does not apply to a music major degree.)

Learning Outcomes	A. Demonstrate knowledge of note names, location on the grand staff, and function (PSLO 1, 2, 3) B. Recognition of major/minor modality (PSLO 1, 2, 3) C. Demonstration of the mechanics of music writing through study of theory (PSLO 1, 2, 3,) D. Demonstration of mechanics of rhythm (PSLO 1, 2, 3) E. Recognition of triads and scales (PSLO 1, 2, 3) F. Identifies all main ideas, supporting details, and vocabulary in reading material; demonstrates a full understanding of the reading (PSLO Alpha)

Attendance Policy	Research has shown a cause and effect relationship between attendance and college success. Policies for this course are described below: You get one 1 free absence before your lates/absences start to count against your grade in the attendance category. After that, each absence deducts 5% of your attendance grade for this class. Three lates = one absence.
Academic Honesty	Academic honesty is expected from all students, and dishonesty in any form will not be tolerated. Please consult the LSC-PA policies (Section IX, subsection A, in the Faculty Handbook) for consequences of academic dishonesty.
Facility Policies	No food or tobacco products are allowed in the classroom. Only students enrolled in the course are allowed in the classroom, except by special instructor permission. Use of electronic devices is prohibited.
